In Nashik, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) gathered more than 200,000 Ganapati idols donated by devotees during the Ganapati immersion on Anant Chaturdashi. Additionally, the NMC collected 177 tonnes of puja waste. To prevent river pollution, the NMC has been promoting eco-friendly Ganapati immersion and encouraging devotees to donate idols to the NMC instead of immersing them in the Godavari river.
The NMC has designated 80 locations in the city for Ganapati idol immersion, including 27 natural spots along the Godavari river and its tributaries. They have also set up artificial ponds at 53 locations to facilitate devotees and minimize river pollution.
Devotees would immerse their Ganapati idols in the river or artificial ponds before donating them to the NMC. NMC officials reported collecting 5,000 more idols this year compared to last year. They ensured staff and volunteers were present at all immersion spots to collect idols and puja waste. The NMC gathered 177 tonnes of puja waste, which was 18% higher than the previous year's collection of 150 tonnes.
The Panchavati division had the highest collection of idols with 79,000, followed by 45,000 idols from the Nashik Road division. The remaining idols were collected from the Nashik East, Nashik West, Satpur, and Cidco divisions of the NMC.
